A parent’s dream come true for a typical child (?- yes!)

10 09 2009

zanesGardenSept09

I would have never guessed that one day, I would be hoping for the day that I could call my child “typical.”  Sounds ironic, but when typical becomes a goal, that day is super sweet.  The day that my son, at 3 1/2, FINALLY called, “Mama, mama, mama” to get my attention, I let him ask a few extra times just to revel in it.  The day my son watched me put make-up on in the car before I dropped him at school and he sat in the backseat saying, “Moooommm!” out of impatience.  And most recently, his new habit of putting me off- telling me, “Almost!” when he’s not finished with whatever he considers priority over my calling for him.  Love it. :)

(This is Zane’s garden- he made it all himself, no help from mom- not even instx!)

Not 1 in 150, not even 1 in 100, but ONE IN FIFTY-EIGHT. Do you hear me??? Anyone?

8 09 2009

When the CDC released its 1 in 150 statistic, the media really sat up at attention.  It was all over the news, in lots of publications.  But an even more alarming stat was just announced- 1 in 58, and where’s the press?  What’s going on?  I suspect the blind eye syndrome.  That’s the answer!  Riiiiight.

Flu Vaccine: Moms of little ones & prego women- LISTEN UP!

27 08 2009
There are important questions to ask of the CDC.  If you’re a new mom, a mom of small children or a pregnant woman, you NEED TO HAVE an interest in the details of these vaccinations!  You have the chance to call in and ask some of the following:
1.  How much mercury will my baby be exposed to from three flu shots?
2.  Are there any safety studies regarding the mixture of thimerosal and squalene?
3.  I looked up flu vaccines in the PDR and they are considered a pregnancy category C drug and have NEVER been tested for safety in even animal studies.  Why hasn’t this been done since you are now telling us to get the vaccine?
4.  I read that a flu vaccine given to a pregnant mother may also cause an immune response in the infant which may interfere with brain development.  Have you looked into this?
5.  Past studies have found that the flu vaccine is not effective in preventing the flu, how do you know this vaccine will work?

Squalene- huh? It’s in the Swine Flu Vaccine? What’s the big deal?

4 08 2009

So the Swine Flu Vaccine has squalene in it.  What is squalene?  Um, you DO want to know what it is, especially when your child’s school is telling you they want to inject it into your kid’s body.  Keep up with this, parents.  Squalene has created questions about its role in chronic inflammatory diseases.

Vaccines CAN contribute to autism. You doubt?

24 07 2009

Those doubting the thimerosal (mercury preservative in vaccines) relationship to neurological issues needs to research thoroughly because there is an abundance of evidence (why would the gov’t recommend it not be used???).  Yes, we adults rec’d thimerosal-containing vaccines as kids, but the vaccine schedule was much different- in 1983, the CDC recommended 10 vaccines for our children; as of 2008, the CDC recommends 36: an increase of 260%! (see comparison here: http://www.generationrescue.org/pdf/cdc_comparison.pdf)
If you have a child who was not negatively affected by thimerosal-containing shots, count your blessings!  In my opinion and in many others’, all other parents should be concerned and proactive in protecting their kids.  Most autism parents aren’t anti-vaccine; we’re pro-GREEN vaccine and pro-alternative schedule.

Russian Roulette with Conception – It’s OK! (?)

14 07 2009

USA Today published an article this week, “Autism Tied to Autoimmune Diseases in Immediate Family,” that reveals some very valuable info about being able to predict autism manifesting in your child.  But IMHO, Mr. Atladottir’s “don’t be alarmed” comment is totally stupid.  It’s like he’s saying, “Don’t worry, go ahead and conceive, and LATER we might tell you that you should’ve been concerned.”  What???  Am I misinterpreting the meaning of proactive and that this article lends itself to the idea?

The Vaccinated vs. Unvaccinated Survey

13 07 2009

The Vaccinated vs. Unvaccinated Children Survey:

We surveyed over 9,000 boys in California and Oregon and found that vaccinated boys had a 155% greater chance of having a neurological disorder like ADHD or autism than unvaccinated boys.In 1983, the Centers for Disease Control recommended a total of 10 vaccines for our children.  In 2008, the CDC recommends 36, an increase of 260%. (See a comparison here.) Yet, no studies have ever been done to compare neurological disorder (“ND”) rates of unvaccinated children to vaccinated children. We commissioned a national market research firm to survey more than 17,000 children in California and Oregon. Read the results here. Our children are experiencing epidemics of ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, and Autism.

We believe these neurological disorders (“NDs”) are environmental illnesses caused by an overload of heavy metals, live viruses, and bacteria. Proper treatment of our children, known as “biomedical intervention”, is leading to recovery for thousands. The cause of this epidemic of NDs is extremely controversial. We believe the cause includes the tripling of vaccines given to children in the last 15 years (with unstudied ingredients like mercury, aluminum and live viruses); growing evidence also suggests that maternal toxic load and prenatal vaccines, heavy metals like mercury in our air, toxic ingredients in our water, pesticides; and the overuse of antibiotics are also implicated. Generation Rescue’s mission is to support continued research on causative factors and treatment approaches for NDs.

Generation Rescue is a parent-founded, parent-led organization of more than 900 mentor families and leading researchers and clinicians from around the globe. Our mission is to continue to discover and share the truth with families about the potential cause of their child’s NDs so they can focus on effective treatments.”

Robert Kennedy defends attacks on “irrational, hysterical, desperate, overwrought, disconnected” autism moms

10 07 2009

Thank you, Mr. Kennedy.  It’s nice to receive credit where it’s due- and publicly.

“… the patronizing attacks on the mothers of autistic children who have organized to oppose this brain-killing poison is one of the most persistent tactics employed by those defending Thimerosal against the barrage of scientific evidence linking it to the epidemic of pediatric neurological disorders, including autism. Mothers of autistics are routinely dismissed as irrational, hysterical, or as a newspaper editor told me last week, “desperate to find the reason for their children’s illnesses,” and therefore, overwrought and disconnected.  But my experience with these women is inconsistent with those patronizing assessments…”

Discover Magazine – Autism isn’t just in the head; it’s in the gut

8 07 2009

I saw this magazine on the shelf at the grocery store only a couple months after my son started Dr. Amy Yasko‘s nutrigenomic autism protocol.  Wow, how timely- I WAS trying to understand autism, and had been told by a personal friend whose son was autistic about a doctor who was making huge strides in the autism recovery world.  So I’m reading the article, which is extremely interesting, and there she is- Dr. Amy’s name!  She was interviewed for the article because she was, and still is, one of the most forefront doctors in the autism recovery world.  My son has come SO far because of her- she is AMAZING.  Thank you, Dr. Amy! :)

Book – The Puzzle of Autism: Putting It All Together

4 07 2009

I learned so much from this bookDr. Amy explains everything from a real, physical aspect.  Therapy does not recover!  Not that it’s not useful, but it doesn’t recover.  Healing the body recovers.

An accurate editorial review: “A Guide to Transforming the Treatment of Autism. For Parents and Physicians. ‘Any parent or physician reading this book should be excited and hopeful. This protocol has been a tremendous benefit to a number of children. It has worked for children of all ages, and no, this protocol does not require that your child be less than five years old. Individuals up to 30 years of age have seen benefits from this program. However, it is not a magic bullet. For most children there is no magic bullet. It is a matter of perseverance, and slowly working your way through the program to gradually reverse the layers of damage, and put all of the complex pieces back together and in working order. Yes, it can be done, and it has been done. There are always the ‘quick fix’ kids. The ones that only need a few supplements or just the first phase of the detoxification program to be on their way to recovery. We all hear about those cases, and it seems like everyone except YOUR child falls into that category. The reality is that most children do not fall into the quick fix category. But there is hope for every child. So, take a deep breath, get ready for the marathon, pace yourself, but above all else don’t give up on your children.’”

Lead recalls courtesy of the CDC, CPSC

3 07 2009

This link goes to the website for the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).  It says that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is responsible for protecting the public from “unreasonable” risks of serious injury or death.  All recalls are at the CPSC website but this page has much useful information to get you started.  What is the danger of lead? Read this.

The toy below is one on the list that my son had and I remember going to so many baby showers where the set of these blocks was gifted.

Household Cleaner – Safe, non-toxic, all-purpose, non-stinky

2 07 2009

I have this product and it rocks. It’s very effective, smells nice, comes in a good-sized amount for not a lot of money. Holy Cow products are made of a blend of soaps (surfactants, emulsifiers, lifters) which come from organic and natural resources- AND are biodegradable. I don’t have to worry about being exposed to harmful chemicals and dangerous fumes with this stuff. I’ve used it on countertops, in toilets and showers, on tile floor, in the sink, etc.

Food – Gluten-free goodness

29 06 2009

So many doctors and researchers believe that peptides formed from incomplete digestion of gluten and casein travel through the bloodstream into the brain and attach to the opiate receptors there.  This is likely why so many parents report that their children seem addicted to wheat and milk products- because it IS literally a physical addiction!  Many parents also report that on a gluten-free diet, their children act as if they’re coming out of a “brain fog.”  Health food stores carry more and more gluten-free products, though there is a much larger selection online.  I recently found a brand of chocolate chunk cookies that ROCK THE HOUSE and my (PICKY) son eats them up like no tomorrow.  I have to admit that many gluten-free products taste a little like, well, cardboard.  Not so with these cookies by Arico Natural Foods Company.  Super yummy. :)

There is so much to say

29 06 2009

and so much to do.  So much information to disseminate.  I tend to want to just grab people in public and start spewing info, asking questions, but I know that’ll go over like a lead balloon most of the time.  So to the web I go, as so many others do, for good reason.  This is our stage, our cyber megaphone.  But I want this to be much more than that- I want to display what I can of the vast amount of research and info out there, what’s happening with autism recovery.  SO many other blogs and organizations exist that do it far better than I, but I also want to include direct links to products that are extremely helpful, which I’m sure there are other sites for and THE MORE, THE BETTER, because we all need all the help we can get to get our children well.
